In this course we will study the art of still life painting. Students will learn about composition and how to stage a cluster of objects to create a successful still life arrangement. We will cover a number of topics such as edges, underpaintings and opacity versus transparency. Students will complete a drawing, grisaille and successive color passes to bring their piece to a finish. There will be class discussions, demos and personalized critiques.
Prerequisites: Beginning and Intermediate Oil Painting or the equivilant.

- Ultramarine Blue
- Olive Green (Holbien)
- Viridian
- Palette Knife
- Sable or Synthetic Filbert Brushes in an assortment of Sizes, such as 0, 2, 4 & 6 (The Rosemary brand of brushes are ideal. Da Vinci or Windsor & Newton are good too. Just make sure they're professional grade.)
- Bar of unscented Ivory soap for brush cleaning
- Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits & Air Tight Container
- Cold Pressed Linseed Oil & Small Container
- Blue Paper Towels or Paint Rags
You can bring whatever supports you’re most comfortable painting on.
