Ceramics Exploration Camp: Wheel Throwing vs. Hand Building

Description: Unlock your creativity and dive into the world of ceramics with our week-long adult ceramics camp! This immersive experience offers participants the opportunity to explore two fundamental ceramic techniques—wheel throwing and hand building—while delving into the exciting realm of surface treatment and decoration.

Throughout the week, participants will have the chance to choose their preferred technique—wheel throwing or hand building—and receive personalized instruction tailored to their skill level and interests. Whether you're a novice looking to learn the basics or an experienced ceramicist seeking to refine your skills, this camp offers something for everyone.

Each day, our expert instructor will guide students through a series of engaging sessions designed to enhance their understanding and proficiency in their chosen technique. From mastering the art of centering and pulling on the pottery wheel to sculpting intricate forms by hand, participants will gain hands-on experience and valuable insights into the ceramic process.

In addition to honing their wheel throwing or hand building skills, participants will explore a wide range of surface treatment techniques, including glazing, underglazing, carving, and texture application. Through interactive demonstrations and guided practice sessions, students will learn how to transform their clay creations into stunning works of art, imbued with depth, texture, and visual interest.

*Day 6: Post-Camp Glazing and Firing Session

Following the conclusion of the ceramics camp, we offer a dedicated session for glazing and firing. This session will be scheduled on a date that accommodates both students and instructors, allowing ample time for the completion of projects. Additionally, students will have the option to participate in an open studio day held throughout the summer (Thursdays 6-9PM), providing the opportunity for glazing and firing their creations. This comprehensive approach ensures that students have the chance to fully realize their artistic vision and experience the entire ceramic-making process, from inception to completion.

Prerequisites: No prior experience required. Open to participants of all skill levels.

Materials: All materials and equipment will be provided. Participants may bring their own tools if desired.
