The exhibition explores our connection to water and each other in New Orleans and beyond through abstract image and realist expression.

Artist Statement:
Many of the works on display were created over the last year and a half at the Academy. The process evolved as my work with my Abstract Realist students evolved.
The work is exclusively vine charcoal and oil paint, I stain unprimed canvas inspired by the Washington School tradition and then develop elements of impasto as well as expressive line work.
Each piece is inspired by multiple source images as well as the autonomous mark. Figurative elements in the works are both positive and negative. Images phase in and out of foreground and background like an important thought that you can’t quite grasp.
