An introduction to the essentials of color theory and basic design. The student is introduced to various approaches to color perception, both historical and current. Class work consists of lectures in the form of demonstrations and experiments, as well as the preparation of color charts. The student works toward the mastery of color mixtures and harmonies to be executed in a series of original designs. The class works in gouache.
Supplies: A kit containing gouache paints, brush, pencil, eraser, a Bristol pad and compass will be available for purchase when you arrive for your first class (Cost approx. $125).
In addition to the kit please bring the following:
- scissors
- ruler
- glass or plastic containers for rinsing your brush, e.g., glass jar or plastic cup
- white plastic or ceramic dinner plate to use as a palette; gouache can stain, so bring an old one
- paper towels
- notebook and pen
- drafting or masking tape
- other small brushes; you will be advised on what you need during the first class
