Encaustic is one of the oldest painting techniques dating back to the Greeks in 800 BC, and the Fayum Mummy Portraits, 400 AD.
This class will focus on utilizing steps to create a finished encaustic painting. We will work in layers using oil paint, wax mixed with damar, fusing these with heat on a wooden surface. The class will cover color, texture, drawing and carving as it applies to this medium.
No prerequisite class or experience is needed.
We will use portrait or animal images with an emphasis on Medieval style. Please bring photos, especially profiles, of images you are interested in working with.
All supplies are included in workshop cost.
