Description: Join us in our 4 week exploring surface decoration class. During this class students will be introduced to different methods for finishing and decorating their ceramic work. Through testing and experimentation students will create test examples and other small works that can be used as reference later to improve and implement in their creative practice.

After demonstrations students will practice that day’s lesson while Reid offers one-on-one feedback and instruction to each student. Come explore and learn as Reid shares his passion and knowledge for the ceramic arts and guides students through the surface decorations process. This class can be taken more than once and all are welcome to join the fun and get their hands dirty!

Core Course Topics

  1. Slip decoration
    Employ slips as a decorating vehicle through various techniques.
  2. Iron oxide stain decoration
    Employ iron oxide stain as a decorating vehicle in high fire ceramics.
  3. Terresigelata Slip decoration
  4. Sgraffito and other carving methods
  5. Technique layering

Supplies: Tuition includes a $50 fee for materials, i.e., clay, tools, and glazes
