Alla prima (Italian, meaning at first attempt), or wet-on-wet, is a painting technique in which layers of wet paint are applied to previously administered layers of wet paint.  This technique requires a fast way of working because the painting must be finished before the first layers have dried.

This alla prima painting class is for students who have taken at least a beginning painting class. Each week, two to three new still lives are set up by the instructor. The instructor will show techniques of alla prima painting in class demonstrations, and images of alla prima paintings will be discussed for inspiration.

Prerequisite: Beginning Oil Painting or equivalent

Supplies: Students may work in oil, acrylic, flashe, gouache, or casein.
