Instructor: Nessa Kent / 6 Weeks / Nov 30, Dec 7 & 14, Jan 4, 11 & 18 / Tuesday / 5:00PM-7:00PM
Class Size: 6-7
This 6 week course is designed for teens who want to explore the foundations of clay through both wheel throwing and hand building methods. We will cover a range of techniques including slab and coil building, thrown pottery, surface and sgraffito, and glazing techniques. Each class will have a primary lesson and goal followed with demonstrations and studio time. We will finish each session with a critique so students can practice talking about their work and reflecting on others projects. Students will gain an understanding of complex concepts, problem-solving, risk-taking skills and discover positive ways to articulate the way they think and feel through the medium. At the end of this course, students will have a basic understanding of the ceramic process and will be able to take home their glazed work. We welcome students of all levels of ability and encourage free expression in both functional and non-functional ware.
Please note ceramics requires two firings: bisque fire and glaze fire. Some pieces may take longer to dry and fire, please expect to pick up their final pieces 1-2 weeks after the final class.
Supplies: All supplies will be provided.
Parents, please note your child's name and age in the comment section when you pay for the class.
*Youth classes have been designed by age to be as pedagogically appropriate as possible, but the Academy recognizes that there are special situations where students are advanced for their age. Please inquire with the front office if you would like your child to be placed into a class that is not within their age range. Thank you
