Description

Instructor: Billy Solitario / 6 Weeks / Oct 6-Nov 9 / Tuesday / 9:00AM-12:00 PM
Class Size: 5-11

This intensive course continues to build upon the skills learned in Beginning Oil Painting and Intermediate Still Life Oil Painting. More involved still life set-ups are used in order to teach the student to see the true nature and form of objects. The highest attention will be given to composition, eventually leading to the evolution of a personal style.

Alla prima (Italian, meaning at first attempt), or wet-on-wet, is a painting technique in which layers of wet paint are applied to previously administered layers of wet paint.  This technique requires a fast way of working, because the painting has to be finished before the first layers have dried.

This alla prima painting class is for students who have taken at least a beginning oil painting class. Each week two new still lives are set up by the instructor. Students have the three-hour class to work and may stay until 4pm that day to finish their painting. The instructor will show techniques of alla prima painting in class demonstrations, and images of alla prima paintings will be discussed for inspiration.

This class takes place in our 2nd floor northlit studio. Each student has their own ample space that allows them to paint on their own outside of class time during regular hours (9am-4pm, Monday-Friday, while the semester is in session).

Prerequisites: intermediate level still life painting or equivalent

Supply List: please bring your regular oil painting supplies and a few choices of canvas formats and sizes to your first class.

Registration for Adult Classes will start August 23, 2021.
